Word Reflections

During this project, a group of variouswords were selected by each group in the class. This word is what the entirety of the project revolved around. We designed large sign sized words that were made out of cardboard. We then were left to make the word match the creative side of our project. We got to work with the word “follow.” We decided to make the concept of sheep following eachother the foundational creative aspect of the project. We were then supposed to place our word in a specific location to display it. After this, we designed a accordion book about the making of our word and the concept of the word, follow. This was the entirety of the project.

This reading pertained to this project because of the imaging techniques that were talked about during the reading. Being able to be creative with the images a person may be working with is a very important concept for this project because having the capability to come up with creative idea to support an image is essential in all design aspects. I learned about the different ways to think about taking pictures and how each way can reflect the nature of a design.

This project had me learning alot about how to manage my creative thoughts and put them all in to one focus. The most difficult part of this project personally for me was the organization of so many ideas being put in to the idea of one word and having the responsibility of creating original elements to fit the project. The main problem that i encountered personally and along with my group as well was coming up with materials to cover our big letters with. Also another personal difficult is that I missed out on class because of a hospitalization and therefore it made it hard for me to understand fully what the project was asking me to complete. The solution to this problem was just to put in some crunch time in orde to complete the project correctly.

As a group, my group mainly had trouble deciding what idea that would support our word to choose from. We had too many ideas that it was hard to directly go with one specific idea. We started to combine uneccessary elements that didn’t really make sense together. So simplifying our ideas was a big part of our groups learning process. Also, figuring out what materials we would need in order to make the our idea solidified was a trouble. We had to drive around to many stores and think about many various materials to use to complete our project. Personally, again my main conflict was my inability to be present around class time and therefore making things unclear for me. I really felt like I caught up by working long and constricted hours on this project.

The construction of our word was brought about by bringing in the idea of sheep following eachother since sheep tend to stick in groups and follow one another. So we covered our word in a white cotton like material and put the sheep of a head on the first letter “F”. We even put foot prints of the sheep leading to our word site. The placement of our words was decided to be placed behind behind Marvin hall and infront of the art and design building. This was a good site because the foot prints could then be lead from the front main part of marvin hall to the back of the art and design buildig, where our site was. The photos contribute to the word because they display the process we went through to create this project.
